Well Design (Level 1-4)

The life cycle of a Well Design moves from Concept, through to Feasibility, Development and finally Implementation. The process is typically broken down into 4 Levels.

Level 1: Concept: This is typically the brainstorming stage where the principle concepts/ issues are determined.

Level 2: Feasibility: Testing and modelling of Level 1 output. Conclusion involves the selection of a final worked concept/plan.

Level 3: Development: Order of LLI’s & typically the detailed design stage resulting in the final budget.

Level 4: Implementation: Typically the Drilling Programme stage, coordination of all third parties and equipment.

For a major development where many wells will be drilled from a platform or even pre-drilled through a template, the L1 to L4 cycle could be in excess of four years. This could involve re-working stages of the development concept and subsurface data with corresponding re-working of the designs. With a carefully managed project the phases will move smoothly from L1 through to L4. However, in many projects the different levels may be re-worked several times as further subsurface data becomes available.

We have at Stuart Wright combined our experience with modern ‘Business Process Mapping’ tools to capture an efficient set of work flows and organizational processes for Well Design. These processes allow a project to be managed logically irrespective of the time frame or amount of re-working.

As part of a modern, flexible approach to customer requirements, Stuart Wright is able to offer our clients Well Design Services specific to their project requirements. The Well Design Services within the section can be utilised as a comprehensive and complete package, or as stand-alone services.
