Advanced Casing Design & Modelling

Who Should Attend?

Drilling/Well Engineers, Well Planners.

Aims

  • Understand the main functions, characteristics and different type of casing.
  • Understand the geometric characteristics and properties of casing, and how these can affect performance.
  • Appreciate the requirements for casing seat selection with regard to subsurface information.
  • Conduct casing design calculations for different load cases via different methods.
  • Understand how buckling affects casing design limitations and show an appreciation for mitigating its effects.
  • Appreciate the effects of temperature and wear on casing design.
  • Understand how corrosion can reduce casing life/performance, recognise signs of corrosion.
  • Become acquainted with industry standard casing design software (StressCheck).

Topics

This 5 day course covers the process and theory behind casing design. Topics include casing description, casing properties, casing design, casing buckling, casing wear and temperature effects and casing corrosion. The course delivers the fundamentals, from the principle elements of boundary conditions, supportable assumptions and good old-fashioned clarity.
