Who should attend?

This course is intended for trainee Drilling/ Well Engineers and trainee Well Planners.

Aims

At the end of this 4 week course attendees should be able to:

  • Have an understanding of basic Petroleum Reservoir Engineering concepts and fundamentals.
  • Perform offset well reviews.
  • Prepare deterministic and probabilistic time and cost estimates.
  • Show an understanding of subsurface inputs for Well Design.
  • Apply casing design theory to different scenarios.
  • Compile and create a comprehensive drilling and completions programme.
  • Show competency in Well Design Modelling programmes.

Topics

This 2 week course focuses on preparing engineers who have some operations practical exposure already and are familiar with drilling equipment and the well construction process.

The course teaches the fundamentals of :

  • Picking mud weights; casing design; casing seat selection.
  • Risk analysis; operations performance; NPT events; performance metrics; mud logs/composite logs; daily drilling reports.
  • Pore pressure calculations; fracture gradient calculations; leak off test analysis.
  • Drilling & completions programme; equipment ordering; final cost estimate (AFE); peer reviews/DWOP; logistics preparation; hole section equipment lists.
